Despite South Africa’s rich history of mining, no South African mining companies appear in the top 50 in the latest Mining, Metals & Minerals 50 2026 report by Brand Finance.
"The Mining, Metals & Minerals 50 ranking has crossed the $80bn threshold for the first time,” says Savio D’Souza, global sector head of mining, metals & minerals, Brand Finance.
Strongest mining brandsBHP BHP (brand value down 2% to $5bn) is the strongest mining brand this year with a Brand Strength Index (BSI) score of 80.1/100 and an AA+ brand strength rating.
Barrick Mining Barrick Mining (brand value up 44% to $1.6bn) ranks third with a BSI score of 77.9/100 and an AA+ brand strength rating.
Meanwhile, Maaden (brand value up 19% to $1bn) registered a BSI score of 73.7/100 and an AA brand strength rating.
