Iowa Hospitals Contributed $1.4 Billion To Iowa’s Economy In 2025

A recent report from the Iowa Hospital Association (IHA) found that Iowa hospitals and health systems provided over $1.4 billion in community benefits through more than 3.6 million patient encounters in 2025.
The report also showed hospitals remained a major economic force in the state, employing 146,616 Iowans, paying $10.4 billion in salaries and wages, and generating $24.8 billion in hospital-related economic activity in 2025.
IHA President and CEO Chris Mitchell says, “Every day, Iowa hospitals invest in the health and vitality of their communities.
The report used data from the American Hospital Association’s (AHA) annual hospital survey, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and self-reported data from Iowa hospitals.
