Coon Rapids Man Appeals Assault Conviction to Iowa Supreme Court After Pointing Gun at Police

A Coon Rapids man who pointed a loaded handgun at law enforcement earlier this year is appealing his conviction to the Iowa Supreme Court.
The two-year prison sentence associated with the conviction was suspended, and McAlister instead received a 14-day prison sentence.
The court did not find his arguments valid and denied his request for a new trial.
However, McAlister filed an appeal to the Iowa Supreme Court on July 31.
The Iowa Supreme Court retains cases of major legal importance while transferring the majority to the intermediate Iowa Court of Appeals.
