Two local businesses are teaming up this month to help area students and families struggling with food insecurity with a back-to-school food drive. Jim Plueger, the owner of Helping Hands Donation and Thrift Store, told KLEM that their goal is to provide good nutritional meals for students in need. Michelle Bomgaars, the owner of Piece of Cake downtown, says that the drive isn’t limited to food, and that they’re also looking for school supplies and personal hygiene products. Starting now, anyone can stop at Piece of Cake or Helping Hands Donation and Thrift to donate items for the drive, with all items available for those in need. The drive itself will run through Saturday, August 29th, but Plueger and Bomgaars says donations will be accepted past that date during regular business hours.
