US Embassy in Abuja will not close despite visa processing changesThe United States Mission in Nigeria has clarified that the realignment of routine visa services in Africa will not affect the operational status of the US Embassy in Abuja.
The clarification follows the Department of State’s decision to transfer routine visa processing in Abuja to a regional visa hub from August 1, 2026.
In a statement on X, the US Mission said the change only affects routine visa processing and does not mean the embassy will close.
The Department of State said the move was aimed at strengthening national security, improving efficiency, and creating more consistent standards for visa screening and adjudication.
According to the State Department, the revocations were carried out through continuous vetting aimed at ensuring visa holders comply with US immigration conditions and do not threaten public safety.
