During the event, Chinese and Pakistani professionals highlighted their joint rice research achievements and the tangible economic benefits that Honglian hybrid rice brings to Pakistani growers. With the adoption of Honglian Type hybrid rice, production will increase manifold, adding billions of rupees to the income of farmers and the economy of Pakistan,” he said. A Joint Research Center of Honglian Type Hybrid Rice was established by Wuhan University and the University of the Punjab in 2020. After multi-location trials across Pakistan’s four rice zones, the Honglian hybrid rice variety HP4—one of nine hybrid lines tested—was officially registered in Pakistan as PU-786 in 2025.
