Hundreds of ancient Roman clay vessels were discovered in a shipwreck off the coast of Sicily. While exploring the warm waters of the Sicilian coast last week, two Italian divers discovered hundreds of clay vessels piled atop an approximately 2,000-year-old Roman shipwreck. Underwater photos of the discovery, which De Mola shared with Hyperallergic, show piles of amphorae overgrown with sea life. De Mola speculated that the wreck could also contain Lamboglia 2 amphorae, along with clay jars from Neo-Punic-era North Africa. The discovery recalls other ancient Roman shipwreck findings in recent years.
