Mr. Wright is the 203rd person exonerated from death row in the United States since 1973, and the second in Delaware. Mr. Wright was convicted and sentenced to death in 1992 for a liquor store robbery and murder of the clerk, Phillip Seifert. His conviction was overturned in 2014 after it was revealed that prosecutors had withheld exculpatory evidence, in violation of Brady v. Maryland. After his conviction was vacated, Mr. Wright agreed to a plea deal to avoid a retrial and obtain his freedom. Mr. Wright maintained his innocence, and his legal team continued to fight to fully exonerate him.
