Ned Lamont (D) is asking municipalities to pause the installation of any new automated license plate reading cameras (ALPRs) as the state looks into guidance for their use. Lamont said he's calling on the Connecticut Police Officers Standards and Training Council to review the increased use of Flock cameras or any other ALPRs across the state. WATCH HERE WATCH HEREThe request is that the council develop guidance for local and state police departments that, among other things, will outline privacy provisions in existing state law and recommend specific policies to be adopted. The law prohibits the use of data from Flock cameras for immigration enforcement or investigations involving abortions. But Lamont said on Friday that he agrees that more needs to be done to strengthen these protections.
