Mexico’s Ministry of Culture has unveiled an extensive cultural program to commemorate National Mexican Cinema Day (Día del Cine Mexicano), running from August 15 through August 29, 2026. The national showcase features 14 selected audiovisual works—including three feature-length films and 11 short films—aimed at celebrating local talent and broadening access to national cinema. Screenings will span 66 independent venues across 23 Mexican states, including Jalisco, Nuevo León, Veracruz, Puebla, Yucatán, and Mexico City. Special live-performance screenings will also highlight classic Mexican cinema. Additionally, Casa del Lago UNAM will screen Carlos Enrique Taboada’s gothic horror film Veneno para las hadas (1986) with a live musical score.
