Government Seeks UNODC Partnership to Deliver on Promise of Safer Community
[]
State House Seychelles
⤢For President Dr Patrick Herminie, public safety has never been an abstract policy line, rather a personal commitment to the people of Seychelles.
In last week's Cabinet meeting, that commitment took a significant step forward, with Cabinet approving proposed engagement with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to support the implementation of a comprehensive Community Policing initiative across Seychelles.
The decision is the latest in a sustained push on community policing that has defined the President's engagement with the security sector since taking office.
When Commissioner of Police Godfra Hermitte was sworn in at State House in March, he named deepening community policing among his top priorities, pledging to keep officers closely connected with the public they serve.
With the support of the UNODC, a UN specialised body with experience delivering community policing reforms across the region, Seychelles Police Force would design and roll out training, systems and equipment upgrades amongst other initiatives.
