Two time-tested traditions in Jamestown will collide when competitors in the Fools’ Rules Regatta and the Save The Bay Swim both enter the East Passage on the same day. “The swim is a community of people, spanning generations, coming together to celebrate the great progress we all have made in cleaning up Narragansett Bay,” he said. This swim supports Save The Bay’s efforts to protect and improve the 1,705-square-mile watershed. While the bay’s water quality has improved, however, some of its beaches are closed to swimming when rainstorms dump polluted runoff into the water. “Since 1977, the swim has been an event that highlights the power of community, organizing and change,” said Hamblett’s deputy, Maureen Fogarty.
