Collier County Commissioners weren’t prepared to discuss the matter at their meeting in late July, but residents were. The property in eastern Collier County is located in Commissioner’ Bill McDaniel’s district, near Interstate 75 and DeSoto Boulevard South. He said much more development is planned in that area and has been for years, including the Town of Big Cypress and a multi-lane Big Cypress Boulevard. Much of the larger—also contested—developments in eastern Collier County have been slated in long term plans for at least a decade, he said. Daniel Tommie, a member of the Seminole Tribe and longtime resident of eastern Collier County didn’t see the benefits outweighing longterm costs.
