A sudden cooling change, including fog and early dew helped fire crews in their containment of the Grade Fire earlier this week. Hundreds of Cal Fire firefighters battled the Grade Fire just east of Palomar Mountain, over the weekend, and by press time on Tuesday the blaze, was 90% contained. “The shift in the dew point and the morning fog allows them to really work on getting a line around the fire,” said Napier. An important factor in getting the blaze under control over the weekend was air attack tankers and helicopters from the newly reopened Ramona airport. Cal Fire was able to keep the fire on the east side of East Grade and push it toward to Lake Henshaw area, which are largely cattle raising lands.
