CLARKSTON — During its meeting on July 27, the Clarkston City Council voted to approve a sewage and disposal rate increase.
The 12.2% increase in rates comes from the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) and the Oakland County Water Resource Commissioners Office (WRC), which recently announced the immediate increase countywide.
For city residents, the result of this is a $15 increase on sewage and disposal fees, jumping from $128 per residential equivalency unit (REU) to $143 per REU.
The increase is set to take effect for the Nov. 1, 2026 billing cycle.
Smith emphasized that this was not an increase for just the City of the Village of Clarkston and that the entire county was seeing the same 12.2% increase as well.
