Moorpark broke ground on a new library earlier this year, after nearly two decades of waiting. But if a recent City Council goal-setting session is any indication, we may be setting ourselves up to be disappointed by our own success. At the session, City Council and library board members floated goals for the new library that included reaching every resident who currently doesn’t use the library and putting Moorpark in the “top 25%” of public libraries nationally. Nobody at the goal-setting session did that math out loud. I’d encourage neighbors who share these concerns to attend upcoming City Council meetings, ask questions, and make sure this library gets the same care and attention now that it took to get built.
