Anneliese Haack of Simi Valley was struck and killed around 4:40 p.m. April 14 while crossing Cochran Street between Stow and Stearns streets. According to the Simi Valley Police Department, Haack was walking south across Cochran Street but was not in a crosswalk when she was struck by a pickup truck. Many students also walk to businesses in the shopping center near Harley’s Camarillo Bowl at the Cochran Street and Stearns Road intersection. Douglas said there is “no safe way” to cross Cochran Street in that area and urged the city to install a pedestrian-activated crossing signal. In 2021, a driver ran a red light at Cochran Street and Stow Street, striking two women who were in a marked crosswalk.
