A Simi Valley man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the 2024 stabbing death of his father during a family welfare check that erupted into violence. He also pleaded guilty to three counts of making criminal threats against other family members. The plea came before Ventura County Superior Court Judge Paul Kawai. The Ventura County Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide caused by multiple sharp-force injuries. The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office charged Almanza with six felony counts, including murder, assault with a deadly weapon and making criminal threats.
