(Talar Stockton/Yukon News Files)The Council of Yukon First Nations and the Yukon government announced a new partnership to establish a First Nation group home to support indigenous children in government care. The initiative will be funded by the Yukon government with the home expected to begin operations within weeks. The initiative is being implemented as a pilot program to support the potential development of First Nations led care-models in the Yukon. According to Thursday’s release, this pilot program will allow the Council of Yukon First Nations and the Yukon government to assess outcomes related to cultural continuity, placement stability and the well being of children in care.
