The findings are intended to inform future tree management as the city works to reduce risk amid worsening fire conditions and behavior. A total of 5,795 tree sites owned or maintained by the city were identified, including 1,159 vacant sites considered suitable for planting. The report recommends planting additional native trees where appropriate as part of creating a more fire-resistant landscape. Two-thirds of the city’s trees are located within Cal Fire-designated Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones. The inventory estimates the city’s urban forest has an appraised value of approximately $15.2 million.
