Calabasas residents who complained about planned power outages in the teeth of the early August heat wave scored a partial victory when Southern California Edison pushed back the start time for maintenance-related service interruptions this week.
“There is never a good time to do this,” said Calabasas Councilmember Ed Albrecht, who lives in Greater Mulwood, where overnight outages on Aug. 4 and 5 affected approximately 580 SCE customers.
In 2024 the City Council created an ad hoc committee to work with SCE to encourage grid-hardening efforts and other upgrades aimed at improving reliability.
The city wants this work “to be done expeditiously,” according to Albrecht, “so we can put these power issues behind us.
We’ve had repeated power issues, it can’t go on like this.”
