Marmalade Cafe at The Commons in Calabasas closed Aug. 2 after nearly 30 years serving the community.
One of the original tenants in The Commons when it opened in 1998, Marmalade became a casualty in the major remodeling project currently underway at the upscale Calabasas shopping center.
“Unfortunately, the ongoing construction throughout the shopping center has resulted in a devastating decline in business,” Marmalade corporate said in statement posted on social media.
The company said it was rebuffed by the landlord in an attempt to gain rent relief during the construction.
The City of Calabasas and its Caruso partners hope the 190,000 square feet of total added construction will breathe new life into the iconic retail center.
