An Oak Park man was arrested July 30 after authorities said he attacked his elderly mother and her boyfriend with a butcher knife inside their home, leaving the 80-year-old man injured. Ventura County Sheriff ’s Office deputies responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at a residence in the 5900 block of East Sunny Vista Avenue in Oak Park. The 70-year-old mother called 911 to report that her adult son was attacking her elderly male friend with a knife. While deputies were escorting the suspect from the home, the injured man, according to the Sheriff ’s Office, told deputies, “You saved my life.” The elderly man said he feared he would have been killed had deputies not intervened.
