MCHS prepares for new upcoming football season with a new coachThe Mecklenburg County High School varsity and junior varsity football teams have been hard at work the past two weeks in camp in preparation for their first scrimmage of the season. The Phoenix junior varsity team will welcome Appomattox on Thursday night while the varsity team will travel to Appomattox on Friday. Both scrimmages will begin at 6 p.m.Phoenix first-year head coach Kevin White said he has been impressed with the players enthusiasm in camp. White said he is thankful for the support from the parents who prepared team meals during the two-a-day practices early in camp. As for football, White said the Mecklenburg defense is a bit further along early in the pre-season.
