The Troy Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of its own — Staff Lt. Charles “Charlie” Noonan, who died Saturday, Aug. 8 after battling cancer. Described as “a dedicated public servant, decorated firefighter and mentor,” Noonan served the community for more than three decades, leaving “an indelible mark.” Noonan’s career in public safety began in 1981 with the Rochester Hills Fire Department; two years later he joined the Troy Fire Department where he served until 1995. He returned to the Troy Fire Department in 2003. Aside from his duties in public safety and emergency service, Noonan was known as an accomplished builder and licensed ship captain.
