Mercadona is preparing to open a string of new supermarkets across Portugal over the coming months as the Spanish retailer continues its rapid national expansion. The new Vila Real supermarket, located at Rua das Camélias, Nº 2, will become Mercadona’s 74th store in Portugal. The Faro supermarket will be located in Vale da Amoreira, near the University of the Algarve’s Penha Campus and Faro Hospital. Mercadona entered Portugal in 2019 and has steadily expanded its network since then, initially concentrating heavily on northern Portugal before moving into new regions. The company’s latest programme demonstrates that expansion is continuing at pace, with several districts receiving their first Mercadona supermarkets during 2026.
