The Moravia Central School District has settled a lawsuit filed by a former student who accused a former teacher and coach of sexual abuse and the district of failing to stop it, according to The Citizen. The plaintiff will receive $595,000, with the district paying $570,000 and former teacher Lexie Hilliard paying $25,000. The lawsuit alleged Hilliard began abusing the student in 2015 after using mentorship, transportation and other behavior to build trust. The plaintiff also alleged the district knew or should have known about the relationship and failed to prevent or report the alleged abuse.
