Water in Multilateral Processes : SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation), the 2030 Agenda and Beyond, and Global Water InitiativesCo-chairs : Germany and MexicoInteractive Dialogue E addresses the fragmentation of water governance across the multilateral system and calls for water to be embedded more systematically across sectors, as an enabler of the 2030 Agenda. Water is already referenced in many multilateral frameworks, including the Framework for Global Climate Resilience and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. And though recent efforts have strengthened coordination, the more than 800 voluntary commitments made under the 2023 Water Action Agenda remain unevenly implemented. Realizing SDG 6 and the wider 2030 Agenda will depend on structured, resourced participation by civil society, Indigenous Peoples and other stakeholders in all water-related processes. Interactive Dialogue E will present options for strengthening the international community’s approach to water governance, including through United Nations processes and other multilateral actions.
