An attacker was able to produce blocks that vulnerable Ravencoin nodes considered valid even though they violated the network’s intended consensus rules. The flaw affected validation associated with Ravencoin’s KAWPOW proof-of-work system and resulted in incompatible views of the blockchain among network participants. If it succeeds, transactions contained exclusively in the invalid branch after block 4,487,775 could disappear from the canonical Ravencoin blockchain. South Korean exchange Upbit suspended RVN deposits and withdrawals, citing a Ravencoin network issue. Users and exchanges therefore have strong incentives to avoid treating recent transactions as irreversible until network consensus is restored.
