The Hellenic Fire Service has launched a nationwide investigation into wind farms following a prosecutorial order prompted by the major wildfire in Boeotia that spread into Western Attica. The Fire Service’s Directorate for Combating Arson Crimes (DAEE) will examine wind farm installations across the country as part of a preliminary investigation into potential criminal offences. The supervising prosecutor of the DAEE ordered the investigation following consultation with the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court. Authorities detained the mayor of Stylida, who had constructed the network, the company’s technical manager and the wind farm’s owner in connection with the case. The Fire Service said the investigation will pay particular attention to wind farm installations that have previously come to the attention of authorities because of fires or other fire-related incidents.
