From Fred Ezeh, AbujaThe Government of The Gambia is seeking to adopt Nigeria’s Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) model as part of efforts to develop a sustainable funding mechanism for tertiary institutions in the country.
Gomez said The Gambian government had established the Tertiary and Higher Education Trust (THET) Fund, modelled after Nigeria’s TETFund, to provide support for higher education institutions in the country.
“Such collaboration would contribute to the development of higher education in both countries while strengthening diplomatic relations between Nigeria and The Gambia,” he said.
According to him, the crisis prompted the Federal Government and other stakeholders to seek an alternative source of funding for tertiary institutions.
He noted that only public tertiary institutions were the beneficiaries of the Fund’s interventions, adding that the agency’s interventions were designed to address critical needs in tertiary institutions and improve standards in teaching, learning, research and academic development.
