Boaters on Cayuta Lake are being asked to slow down and avoid creating wakes until further notice as unusually high water levels create hazards for shoreline property and lake traffic. The Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office issued the advisory after rising water partially or completely submerged some docks and other shoreline structures. Sheriff Kevin Rumsey said wakes from passing boats could cause additional damage to docks, shoreline property and other structures while water levels remain elevated. Boaters are being asked to operate at a slow, no-wake speed throughout Cayuta Lake until conditions return to normal. The Sheriff’s Office also warned that high water may conceal docks, debris and other hazards that would normally be visible, creating an added risk for people on the lake.
