Conservation Officer Service says there is no ongoing threat to other backcountry users after a grizzly bear attack near Pemberton. Conservation officers responded to a report of a grizzly bear attack Sunday evening in the backcountry area of the Rutherford Creek drainage, a Facebook post from the service says. Conservation Officer Service said the investigation determined the attack was “defensive in nature” and was the result of a “close-range surprise encounter.” While the service says there is no ongoing threat to backcountry users, warning signage is being installed in the area. A bear was killed by RCMP, but it has since been confirmed it was not the suspect bear.
