Advertising heavyweight Leigh Terry has joined Nine’s board of directors eight months after he was let go from IPG Mediabrands in the wake of its A$20b acquisition by Omnicom. The 30-year industry veteran was CEO of IPG Mediabrands Asia Pacific when he was among a swathe of senior leaders, including local CEO Mark Coad, caught up in the merger crossfire. Terry will now join Nine’s board from 26 August, under the chairmanship of Peter Tonagh. “That is exactly the perspective a media company board should have. Five years later, he was one of several media heavyweights poached by then-IPG Mediabrands global CEO Henry Tajer to lead the holding company’s Asia-Pacific operations.
