FIFA president Gianni Infantino is facing mounting opposition after UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation and CONCACAF jointly accused him of breaking trust over plans involving the commercial rights to the World Cup. The three confederations criticised the FIFA president’s handling of the proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise, which could allow private investors to acquire interests in major FIFA competitions. The dispute intensified after FIFA promoted plans to raise funds by offering investors stakes linked to its commercial activities, including the World Cup. UEFA has previously discussed stronger measures in response to the plan, including possible non participation in FIFA competitions. The growing dispute now threatens to become one of the biggest governance battles of Infantino’s presidency.
