Northeastern received a Gold rating in campus sustainability from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, or AASHE, program, surpassing its 2023 silver rating, the university announced in a July 8 email. The Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System, or STARS, is the most widely recognized program for measuring sustainability in higher education in the United States. To qualify for a Gold ranking, the second-highest in the STARS system, a university must receive a minimum of 65 points on their report. Northeastern submitted its first STARS report in May 2021, achieving the program’s entry-level designation of Reporter a month later. “Reaching Gold is a milestone that belongs to our entire community,” Megan Curtis-Murphy, director of Campus Sustainability & Engagement at Northeastern and the university’s STARS liaison said on the Northeastern Planning, Real Estate, and Facilities website.
