NRM sweeps 80 of 97 parish seats in Mukono

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has won 80 of the 97 parish chairperson positions in Mukono district.
Mukono district returning officer George William Eliau said the NRM won about 82 per cent of the parish chairperson positions, while independent candidates secured 11 seats, the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) five and the Democratic Party (DP) two.
The NRM won 92 of the 97 women’s chairperson positions, while independents took three and NUP two.
Across the five positions on each committee, chairperson, vice chairperson, general secretary, public secretary and finance secretary, the NRM won 452 of the 485 positions, representing 94 per cent.
In Namumira parish, NRM candidate Stephen Kiggudu defeated independent candidate Sam Ssenyonjo by 63 votes to 31, although a separate record indicated that Ssenyonjo received 32 votes.
