The NSW Liberals are currently subject to the unforgiving spotlight of the state’s anti-corruption watchdog, roughly a quarter of the way through eight weeks of public hearings into allegations that high-profile members of the party colluded with property developer Jean Nassif to oust politicians who were unfavourable to his business interests. Among the many allegations NSW’s Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) makes is that party members solicited and hid donations from Nassif (property developers are banned from making political donations in NSW) that were far in excess of the NSW Electoral Commission’s donation cap.
