As I near 60 years of age, I can still flatter/delude myself that I’m middle-aged. But not for much longer: soon I’ll be old. Or an “older gentleman”, as I’ve been called; though I’ll leave the “gentleman” bit for others to determine. So, when I say we should weigh our voting system by age in favour of younger people, I am hardly speaking from self-interest. The rationale is that, if you accept that those who are affected by decisions made by governments should have a say in them, it’s impossible to reject the logic that those who are more strongly affected by those decisions should have a greater say than those who are less affected, or trivially affected.
