Analysis: National Party MPs are jetting back to Wellington to attend an urgent caucus meeting called by Prime Minister Christopher Luxon amid what he called “increased speculation about my leadership”. He won the vote, but the margin wasn’t released by the National Party. I also believe this distraction is unfair to the New Zealand people, and dedicated National Party candidates, supporters and volunteers, when there is so much at stake. For over a year, Luxon has polled behind Chris Hipkins in most preferred Prime Minister rankings. Rolling Luxon would also strip Labour of one of the planks of its own campaign strategy: Bashing the Prime Minister.
