The Vicksburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted Monday to reject Hemphill Construction’s $1.6 million bid for the Convention Center Wall Rehabilitation Project, return the company’s bid bond and authorize the city clerk to re-advertise the project at a later date. The city’s engineer had estimated the work at about $487,000, Assistant City Attorney Keyona Henry told the board. The disparity prompted the city to reject the sole bid rather than move forward with the project at the higher cost. “We got one bidder, and it came in at $1.6 and some change, as it was well above the anticipated cost,” Community Development Director Jeff Richardson said.
