Several electric scooters have been seized in Wrexham Rural as part of an ongoing crackdown by North Wales Police. North Wales Police Wrexham Rural said e-scooters are classed as motor vehicles under the Road Traffic Act 1988 and therefore require insurance and a driving licence in order to be used on a public road or in a public place. However, the force said it is currently not possible to obtain valid road insurance for the majority of privately owned e-scooters. “Presently, it is not possible to obtain valid road insurance for the majority of privately owned e-bikes and e-scooters. “Using one on a public road or place may result in it being seized under section 165 of the Road Traffic Act 1988.
