The Pearl River County Sheriff’s Office will be implementing an automated license plate reader system aimed at protecting citizens from unreasonable searches while still maintaining oversight protocols. This system will serve as a passive public safety tool throughout Pearl River County. It will capture publicly visible license plates and vehicle characteristics to cross-reference against law enforcement databases for stolen vehicles, felony warrants, and missing persons alerts. The Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department believes this technology will better protect its citizens while maintaining a focus on public safety. This system is designed to capture images of license plates and vehicles, not the faces of passengers.
