Despite the red flags warning of dangerous weather conditions placed on a beach in Chania on the island of Crete, a tourist entered the water risking her own life as well as the lives of those who rushed to rescue her. The 60-year-old woman ignored the warning red flags im Kavros beach in Apokoronas and entered the sea for a swim on Monday morning, August 10. She was quickly swept away from the angry waves, the strong currents and the northerly winds blowing in the area. All three jumped into the water to rescue the woman and with coordinated efforts they managed to reach the swimmer and bring her safely to the shore. Lifeguards are once again sounding alarm, pointing out that many swimmers, mainly tourists from abroad, continue to ignore warning flags and prohibitions when adverse and dangerous weather conditions prevail.
