The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has started the process of seeking a private operator for the Nairobi-Mombasa Road under a proposed public-private partnership, according to a procurement notice published on Tuesday, August 11. According to the notice on MyGov, KeNHA is seeking a consultant to conduct feasibility studies and provide transaction advisory services for the road under a PPP framework. The consultancy will determine the viability and structure of the proposed partnership before a private partner can be selected. The consultancy will examine the road's infrastructure and transport requirements as part of preparations for the proposed PPP arrangement. Tuesday’s notice comes barely a month after Treasury’s Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Committee completely abandoned the ambitious Ksh468 billion Nairobi-Mombasa "Usahihi" Expressway project.
