KURA to Roll Out New Technology to Monitor Nairobi Roads in Real Time

Kenyans.co.ke
The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) plans to expand the Nairobi Intelligent Transport System (NITS) into Phase II, with city junctions expected to get CCTVs and e-police units for real-time monitoring.
This follows a new bid by KURA, as seen by Kenyans.co.ke dated August 11, which pushed back the original August 4 deadline for the Ksh10 billion smart traffic project by two weeks.
Once complete, the project promises to change how Nairobi manages the scourge of perpetual traffic jams, using real-time monitoring technology across the city.
The plan covers 60 key junctions, where crews will install traffic signals, CCTV cameras, and vehicle detector systems to ease congestion.
Two variable message signs and 60 vehicle enforcement systems will also go up, including a new bridge and extensions to two existing ones.
