“Instead of weakening regulations, we urge the CFPB to enforce the existing TRID regulations,” said Steve Sharpe, senior attorney at the National Consumer Law Center.
A central concern is the potential impact on the rules governing borrowers’ right to rescind certain mortgage transactions.
Consumers deserve to see the final loan terms before closing, and they need a chance to cancel if they have been pressured into signing.
The organizations also highlighted reverse mortgages, which they said require particular attention because borrowers must evaluate products with different loan terms and payment structures.
The groups called for improved reverse mortgage disclosures based on consumer testing and public feedback, as well as mandatory pre-loan counseling.
