For decades, Hollywood told stories of AI enslaving humanity by a robot attack or a computer virus that locks down our entire digital grid. AI won’t destroy humanity by causing an apocalyptic cataclysm, rather it will be death by a thousand cuts. We will discover that we need AI to do things because we have forgotten how. At this point we’re doomed because we’ve lost the ability to think without AI, a self-inflicted fatal wound. Everyone would need to stop using AI assistants and the major companies would need to shut down and wipe their servers.
