Tim Brosnan (CAS ’80), a former Major League Baseball executive and Georgetown University graduate, will be the Big East Conference’s sixth commissioner, officials announced Aug. 10. Ackerman’s 13-year reign oversaw four national championships in men’s basketball for Big East schools. Brian J. Shanley, chair of the Big East board of directors, said the conference prioritized finding a leader with experience generating revenue. Brosnan pitched for Georgetown baseball from 1976 to 1980 and served as the team’s co-captain. Brosnan will bring his business acumen to the Big East as it navigates the changing dynamic of college sports, which are increasingly financially driven by football, a sport the Big East does not compete in.
