August the 11th, 2026 – Croatian public debt has increased by 4.6 billion euros in a single year, with long-term borrowing dominating the entire picture. As Poslovni/Ana Blaskovic writes, Croatian public debt stood at a whopping 55 billion euros back at the end of April, which is 4.6 billion euros or 9 percent higher than in the same period last year, according to the latest data from the Croatian National Bank (HNB). The largest sum of the increase comes from stronger borrowing by the central government, whose debt reached 54 billion euros. the public invests 4.9 billion euros in a yearHNB data also show growth in investments from the general public in government securities. Household investments increased from 3.9 billion euros to 4.9 billion euros in one single year, while financial companies raised their exposure to state debt from 31.1 billion euros to 32.6 billion euros.
